Cannes Film Festival 2016: Day 5

Cannes film festival 2016: Louis Garrel

The challenge on a Sunday morning is being able to make for the 8 :30 AM screening, especially for those who partied all night. Unsurprisingly, the Lumiere theatre was far from being packed for Nicole Garcia’s Mal de Pierres which stars Marion Cotillard and Louis Garrel (see picture). This classic romantic story about a married woman falling for an injured veteran is quite tedious, mostly worth watching for Marion Cotillard’s sober performance.

Another highlight today, out of competition, was Shane Black’s buddy movie The Nice Guys which is set in Los Angeles and stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. When it comes to glamour, American Honey’s Andrea Arnold and her cast set the red carpet on fire dancing to the movie’s soundtrack including tunes by Bruce Springsteen, Mazzy star, E-40 plus some country, folk and hip-hop. This movie and its cast spiced things up, raising our hopes for this second week.
