LA Film Fest 2013 – Day 1

The festival kicks off officially tonight with the premiere of Pedro Almodovar’s I’m So Excited (picture below by Anji Milanovic). There are quite a few movies worth seeing and, rather than focusing on a  few sections as we usually do, we will this year try to give you a taste of everything.


Here is a – non-exclusive list – of movies we will cover:

  • Ain’t Them Body Saints –  a mix of western and film noir starring Casey Affleck
  • Casting By – a documentary about an influential Hollywood agent
  • Concussion – a drama about a woman “reborn” after head injury
  • Crystal Fairy – a psychedelic tale starring Michael Cera
  • Drug War – the latest from Johnny To (The Mission, Vengeance)
  • Harry Dean Stanton – a documentary about the cult actor
  • Only God Forgives – a crime thriller from Nicolas Winding Refn starring Ryan Gosling (read our review)
  • Purgatorio – a documentary about life at the Mexican border (read our review)
  • Winter in the Blood – a drama following a Native American’s journey to redemption
