New Blu Ray Releases This Week: April 28th 2015

Le silence de la merHere are our two picks for this week:

Le Silence de la Mer, an adapatation of a Vercors novel which we read at school, is the debut from French director Jean-Pierre Melville (Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge) focusing on a family forced to host a Nazi officer. While Mr. Melville is known for crime and film noir, he also found success with Army of Shadows which was chronicling French resistance against the Nazis. Get it here …

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice is an adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel following a private detective (Joaquin Phoenix) in 70’s LA. Focusing between crime and comedy, the film aims at delivering a colorful portray of an era. As a side note, some scenes were filmed in my neighborhood. Get it here …
