Nymphomaniac Blu-Ray

Lars Von Trier’s sex saga, Nymphomaniac, is now available on Blu-Ray, this Magnolia Home Entertainment release conveniently featuring both Volume 1 and Volume 2 (also available as standalone discs).

Despite its title and premise following a nymphomaniac girl’s journey from teenage years to adulthood, this film is far more subtle and amusing than you might thought, catering more to the Art-House crowd – as it’s always the case with Mr. Trier’s body of work – than to skin flicks aficionados.

This edition is presented in high-def  (1080p resolution) with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack. Subtitles: available in English and Spanish.

Special Features

This 2-disc edition comes with a few short featurettes including:

  • The Characters
  • The Director
  • The Sex
  • AXS TV: A Look at Nymphomaniac
  • Volume 1 and Volume 2 Trailers

I’ve always been a big fan of Mr. Von Trier and I think every single of his movies is worth watching, whether they are good or bad. Nymphomaniac is probably one of his most ambitions works and a strong entry in his filmmography, which is a relief following the laborious Anti-Christ. As to owning it, I guess it depends on how much a fan you are and if you’re a completist. Personally, I think that his films are so powerful that watching them once is enough as they leave a lasting mark on spectators. Also, because they are usually a pretty heavy affair, it might depend on how often you are willing to revisit these stories and experience their atmosphere.
